KARACHI, Feb 22: Mehrooz Hanif produced a splendid all-round show as Lahore clinched the inaugural Inter-region Under-16 one-day cricket tournament, beating Islamabad by 40 runs in the final at the National Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first in the day/night encounter, Lahore totalled 177 before being dismissed in 39.4 overs.Umar Siddique top-scored with 52. Mehrooz slammed a 45-ball 42 with three fours and a brace of sixes. From Islamabad Shahid Ilyas picked five wickets for 32.

In reply, Islamabad were bundled out for 137 in 38.5 overs. Mehrooz took three for 20 in his eight overs.

Lahore captain Umar Siddique received the winning trophy and a cash prize of Rs100,000 while Islamabad skipper Wajid Ali got the runners-up trophy and Rs50,000.

Shahid Ilyas and Babar Azam were jointly named player of the tournament while Usman Qadir was given a special prize for taking 13 wickets in the event.
