SUKKUR Feb 22: The Ghotki police have failed to conduct raids to arrest the accused nominated in the murder case of a nephew of PPP MPA-elect Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi, including former provincial minister Nadir Akmal Leghari.

Winning candidate of PPP on PS-7 Ghotki, Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi, had lodged an FIR at Dad Leghari police station against five people including Mr Leghari.

On Monday, Sardar Pitafi visited different polling stations. When he reached at Kouro Leghari polling station, unknown persons pelted stones at his car and also opened fire as a result of which his nephew Shoaib Pitafi received bullet injuries and was rushed to Rahim Yar Khan hospital, where he died.

When contacted, the DPO of Sukkur Arab Mahar, who is also officiating as DPO Ghotki, told this correspondent that he would hand over the charge of DPO Ghotki to the newly- posted DPO Tanveer Ahmed Tahir on Saturday, who would chalk out a strategy after seeking consent of his seniors.

The DPO Ghotki had been transferred while three SHO ssuspended on Thursday, amid allegations of rigging on the part of police in favour of the PML (Q) candidate. When this correspondent contacted Mr Leghari on his cell phone, he said that he was very much present in his constituency and fled nowhere.
