ISLAMABAD, Feb 21: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif on Thursday gave a new impetus to the lawyers’ movement by announcing at a protest rally in the Judges’ Colony that deposed judges would soon return to their courts.

He surprised the lawyers with his appearance at the rally and while addressing them he also said: “Very soon the slogan of ‘Go Musharraf go’ will become reality”.

He warned security personnel and police deployed at the Judge’s Colony to refrain from carrying out the orders of an ‘illegal’ president.

“Your job is to carry out legal orders”, and Musharraf was an unconstitutional president and carrying out his orders would also be illegal, he said.

The rally was held on the call of lawyers and members of civil society. Members of various bar associations from across the country, along with members of civil society and students participated in it.

Mr Sharif said: “It is now a matter of a few days that your struggle will bear fruit and Justice Iftikhar will take his position back. Days of the dictator are numbered and actions he had taken to curb judiciary’s powers will be annulled and the will of the people will prevail.”

He said that not only the chief justice but all other deposed judges would be reinstated and they would return to their positions.

He congratulated the lawyers and members of civil society for the triumph of democratic forces in the Feb 18 polls.

Mr Sharif was accompanied by former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif.
