Infectious meat on sale

Published April 12, 2002

SADIQABAD, April 11: Sale of meat, injurious to human consumption, has picked up in the district due to the negligence of the veterinary staff.

Dawn learnt on Thursday that almost all the meat shops had become centres of filth and diseases.

The meat sellers were seen slaughtering feeble and in some cases dead animals and they sold meat at higher rates.

It was learnt that the veterinary staff had been accomplicing the act.

Social circles have urged the authorities concerned to take punitive action against the people involved in the crime.

ZAKAT FUND: An amount of Rs70 million has so far been disbursed from the zakat fund among the deserving people in the district.

Cheques under the rehabilitation scheme would be handed over to the deserving people by district zakat ushr committee Secretary Naseer Ahmad Khan. —Correspondent
