PESHAWAR, Feb 7: Pakistan People’s Party provincial president Rahimdad Khan said here on Thursday that government would be responsible for the consequences if Feb 18 general elections were rigged.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club, he said that the candidates sponsored by government had already started announcement of developmental schemes in their respective constituencies which was tantamount to pre-poll rigging.

Mr Khan alleged that under a well planned conspiracy the PPP candidates were declared illegible for the elections, adding that the case of a candidate from PF-10 was a glaring example of such attempt.

The credit, he said, went to the court that gave verdict in favour of the PPP candidate by terming his degree as genuine.

The PPP, he said, had roots in the masses and was the single largest party of the country which would get heavy mandate in all the provinces.

He said the party had planned its strategy that its workers would remain alert at all the polling stations and concentrate only on the election process to foil all kind of conspiracies.

Mr Khan said the party workers had decided to follow into the footprints of Benazir Bhutto and complete her mission.
