Top seeds cruise into last 16

KARACHI, Feb 5: Top seeds opened their campaign on a winning note when they propelled into the men’s singles pre-quarter-finals by notching up convincing victories in the Open Sindh ranking tennis championship at the DHA Sunset Club courts on Tuesday.

Top seed Yasir Khan disposed off Asgher Sawani 6-4, 6-1 to reach round of last 16 where he was joined by third seed Nasir Mushtaq and fourth seed Robin Das. Nasir accounted for Asim Khan 6-0, 6-1, while Robin overcame Ahad Hasan 6-4, 6-2.

The second seed Vinod Das plays his opening match on Wednesday.

Naseem bt Naresh Das 6-2, 6-3; Fahim Ramzan bt Javed Agrawala 6-2, 5-7, 6-4; Qazi Zain bt Saeed Azher 6-1, 6-0; Shameel w/o Asadullah; Aslam Pervez bt Adnan Yousuf — walkover; M. Men’s singles second round: Shameel bt Faisal Mehmood 6-1, 6-0.

Boys’ under-13 singles first robin (pro-set): Imran Mooraj bt Hassan Saad 8-3; Khwaja Hamza bt Ahsan Saqib 8-1.

Boys’ under-15 singles first round: Ahsan Saqib bt Shehryar Ahmed 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
