Christians warn of movement

Published January 26, 2008

LAHORE, Jan 25: The Human Liberation Commission of Pakistan has condemned the apathy of government and political and religious parties over the demolition of a church in Garden Town and eviction of the priest on Dec 11, 2007.

The condemnation was voiced during a meeting of the commission held at the Peoples Hall here on Friday with former Advisor to chief minister Peter Gill in chair.

The meeting pointed out that police concerned did not even bother to come to rescue of the priest despite being contacted on Emergency No.15.

The church’s nine kanal and 15 marla land was still under the possession of the land grabbers, it deplored.

The participants of the meeting warned that the Christian community would launch a protest movement in case the land was not retrieved and handed over to them for the reconstruction of the church. —Reporter
