RAWALPINDI, Jan 25: A security guard was shot dead by robbers in the capital, while a 20-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of rope tied to the ceiling at his workplace at Westridge on Friday, police said.

Ghulam Mustafa, a private security guard, was killed when he tried to overpower the robbers, who were fleeing after looting a shop at Kural.

The police said the shop owner - Khalid Mehmood - had called for help when the three robbers snatched Rs7,000 from him and were fleeing. The security guard tried to rescue him, the police added. The robbers managed to escape from the scene. A senior police official said the robbers seemed to be from NWFP and were on foot. He said sketches of them had been drawn and the police had started efforts to arrest the accused.

In another incident, Mujeebullah committed suicide because of, police said, financial problems. His body was handed over to his brother after the autopsy.
