LAHORE, Jan 23: Bay mare Shah Pari registered a length’s victory in the feature event of the over 1,100 metres distance race, during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Ridden by Naseer Ahmad, Shah Pari leading all the way home beat the gelding Tallal The Great by a length while favourite Mirana Choice as usual went wide in the straight chase to finish third. Meanwhile the bay horse The Runner completed the frame in 11 starters in this fourth race of the day.

The next race had the fancied filly Sweet Lady enjoying the benefits of favourable placing in the handicap which won her the supporting event in the over 1,100 metres race.

Ridden well by riding boy Shakeel Mahmood, the filly avenged her previous day’s defeat by leading all the way to spare six lengths over her old rival Armida at the finishing post. Love Minister and Ferrari completed the frame among a dozen runners.

The best performer of the day was the dark bay filly Raksh-e-Raqeeban, who completed a hat-trick of victories, picking up the spoils in the third race. He was ridden with great confidence by riding boy Khalil Vicky to earn a creditable feat for Syed Alamdar Shah, who joined the ranks of owners on a triumphant note, with the induction of the filly in races over a month back.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards came down hard on apprentice riding boy M. Alam and withdrew his riding licence for good for not allowing his mount Wonderful Smile to run on merit. The horse’s owner Malik Javaid Awan was also fined Rs40,000 for his alleged involvement in the pulling.

Trainer Sohail Aziz further consolidated his lead on LRC trainers’ statistics table sending out another brace of winners — Noor-un-Nisa and Raksh-e-Raqeeban — in the first and third race of the day. He is leading with 24 wins with I. Nawab following with his 15 wins.
