MANSEHRA, Jan 23: A condemned prisoner could not be shifted from Karachi central jail to Abbottabad for execution as the interior ministries of Sindh and NWFP were reluctant to bear the travelling expenses.

Khuram Malik of Mansehra had killed Ijaz alias Goga on November 24, 1998 and a local court sentenced him to death. The convict escaped from the Haripur prison after the death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court on Dec 7, 2005.

Haji Mohammad Nazeer, uncle of the deceased Goga, said at a press conference here on Wednesday that he had contacted the interior ministry in Sindh to shift the convict from Karachi to Abbottabad for execution but the officials concerned were reluctant to bear the expenses -- estimated over Rs70,000 -- in this regard.

The Sindh interior ministry wrote a letter to the NWFP home ministry to shift the prisoner but the officials in the NWFP ministry were not ready to bear the expenses, he said and appealed to President Musharraf to issue directives in this regard and provide justice to the bereaved family.
