NEW DELHI, Jan 22: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that elections in Pakistan should be fair and free amid international community’s watch.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Mr Brown said: “Pakistan is about to have elections. The world community will be judging how fair that process is?” Thousands of foreign poll observers are in Pakistan to monitor the elections scheduled for Feb 18.

However, he said: “There’s been a tragedy overhanging these elections, which is assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the loss of life which has been completely unacceptable. But, I think, we have to wait and see how the Pakistan elections are conducted. Then I think the international community will make its views known.”

On the issue of growing militant attacks within Pakistan, Mr Brown said: “all of us face problems with terrorism, all of us have to find better ways of dealing with terrorism.—APP
