PESHAWAR, Jan 22: An alleged drug trafficker escaped from the Peshawar airport after law-enforcement agencies on Tuesday morning foiled an attempt of heroin smuggling.

A man allegedly accompanying the suspect was arrested from the airport.

Sources said heroin was found in the suitcase of Mohammad Waseem, a resident of the Lodhran area in Punjab, going to Dubai via flight EK-637 of Emirates Airlines, when his luggage was scanned at the airport. They said the man tried to deceive the officials by saying it was not heroin, but a kind of spices.

They said when the officials asked the man to open his second suitcase he told them the keys were with his sister sitting in the waiting lounge. The man told the officials that he was bringing the keys and went outside, but he did not return, leaving behind his luggage.
