KARACHI, April 7: The security guard of an Imambargah was shot dead by unknown attackers in Nazimabad, on Sunday.

Police said that unknown attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire at Imambargah Mehfil-i-Zainabia at Nazimabad No 1 and fled.

An eyewitness told Dawn that three unknown assailants riding a motorcycle came to the Imambargah.

One of the assailant alighted from the motorcycle and opened fire at the guard, Mohammad Nazeer, 23. Seconds later, his accomplice approached the security guard, who had fallen down, and fire repeatedly at him.

Hearing the sound of gunfire, a namazi ran towards the entrance of the Imambargah and closed the door from inside, another eyewitness said.

After carrying out the attack, the three assailants fled on the motorcycle without meeting any resistance from law- enforcement agencies.

The dead body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The victim who received multiple bullet wounds hailed from Parachanar. The assailants damaged his gun before fleeing, police added.

Tension griped the area following the killing and law enforcement personnel encircled the area soon after.
