WASHINGTON, Jan 19: The US Capitol Police have arrested a man carrying a loaded shotgun, a samurai sword and a bag filled with gunpowder near the Capitol, where the US Congress holds its meetings, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The newspaper said no shots were fired and nobody got hurt.

The man identified as Michael Steven Gorbey, 38, was taken into custody at about 1pm (1800 GMT) on Friday and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, the report said citing police officials.—AFP
