KASUR, Jan 13: Teachers and students of the Government Islamia College ripped to shreds the Lesco authorities for their failure to restore the power supply suspended for the last eight days.

Enraged students said they would stage a sit-in outside the Wapda office on Abdul Qadir Road if alternate arrangements were not made for the restoration of power supply to the college immediately. Around 2,300 students, including females, are enrolled in this college

Reports said that the 50KVA transformer supplying electricity to the college had been reduced to a mere skeleton when thieves had removed its expensive parts, including the coils, on Jan 7. The transformer has been installed near the graveyard.

The A-Division police had registered a case two days after the incident.

Prof Zafarullah Bhatti said that costly parts of the transformer could not be stolen without the involvement of some Wapda officials. He asked the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

When contacted by phone, SDO Habibul Rehman said that he would `soon’ look into the matter.
