HYDERABAD, Jan 12: An inquiry into the death of a government school student, Mudassar, began by EDO revenue Hyderabad Barkat Rizvi here on Saturday.

It was decided that a co-opted member of the committee, i.e. Deputy District Officer (revenue) city Saleem Rajput, would record statements of other school fellows of the boy, schoolteacher and members of the school management committee (SMC).

The inquiry committee would also examine medical reports of the boy. Mohammad Aslam, the father of the deceased and his son Owais met EDO revenue at his official residence.

EDO health Dr Sharif Rathore, district officer secondary schools Shahid Zaman, the teacher Buland Iqbal and headmaster Syed Mahfooz were also present. Mr Zaman is the inquiry officer, appointed by EDO education Prof Anwar Siddiqui.

The DDO would record statements on Sunday in his office to be submitted to the EDO revenue.

The teacher told officials that he didn't subject the student to any kind of torture except for just reprimanding him because he himself was a father.

Shahid Zaman also produced a letter to show that father of the boy had written to education officials that he had no compliant against the class teacher. However, the EDO asked him that the boy’s father should own the statement in front of him formally whether he did it or not.

The boy's father gave full background of his boy's case beginning from November 22 and culminating on January 10 when boy died in the Civil Hospital's paediatrics ward. He told how his son was subjected to corporal punishment despite the fact that he was suffering from abdominal pain.

The boy's father also complained that if he had got financial help from education department or the teacher concerned for proper medical treatment for his son, his life may have been saved but it was not happened.

He said that it was a wrong statement given by the EDO education, mentioning that expenses of the student's treatment are being borne by education department. The family of the boy in fact didn't make it a medico legal case when they took the child to hospital for admission on Nov 22.

They also didn't disclose what had happened to Mudassar in his school. The hospital medical superintendent Dr Waseem Shaikh made informal inquiries from boy's father when matter was reported in media in first week of December as to what had gone wrong with his son.

During Saturday's proceedings of inquiry the EDO asked the DDO city to also record statements of SMC members. The committee was also informed that another family had made complaint against the teacher, Buland Iqbal.

The inquiry committee was formed by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Friday.

It was headed by DCO Hyderabad and comprised EDOs of revenue and health to give their findings within three days.

Meanwhile, a committee form-ed by Medical Superintendent Liaquat University Hospital Dr Mohammad Waseem Sheikh to conduct inquiry into the death of Mudassar also began its work in hospital on Saturday.
