DADU, Jan 9: Journalists took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest the registration of cases against eight newsmen.

The cases were registered for the journalists’ alleged involvement in riots that broke out after the assassination of the PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.

The protestors said that false cases had been registered against Jamil Ahmed Mahessar, Zulfiqar Abbasi, Faiz Ahmed Pirzado, Wazir Mallah, Ghulam Rasool Babar, Shafi Mohammad, Abdul Sattar Mirani and Qadir Chandio.

DPO Zafar Iqbal Awan assured the protesters that the cases would be disposed of on merit.
