NEW DELHI, Jan 1: Sonia Gandhi, the head of India’s ruling Congress party, was admitted to a New Delhi hospital with a chest infection, a hospital official said on Tuesday.

Gandhi, 61, was in stable condition after checking in with mild breathing problems late on Monday night, said Dr. B.K. Rao, an official at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the Indian capital.

Gandhi had begun receiving treatment and was doing well, Rao said in a statement issued by the hospital. It did not say when she would be released.—AP
