Unclaimed bodies rot in mortuary

Published January 1, 2008

PESHAWAR, Dec 31: The authorities have failed to identify decomposed bodies of two men in their 30s which have been lying in the mortuary of the Khyber Medical College for the last six days.

A source said four bodies bearing marks of violence had been sent by the officials from the Frontier Region of Kohat, of which two still remained unidentified.

The source told Dawn that both the bodies were in a terrible condition and could not be preserved any longer. They said the officials concerned had already been asked to bury them.

Another unidentified body, that of a 40-year-old man, was found in the limits of the Nasir Bagh police station. An official there said the body was found floating in a nearby canal.

Police took it to a local hospital for post-mortem.
