KARACHI, Dec 31: Four children, three of them girls, were killed within the jurisdiction of the Mominabad police station on Monday when a truck hit an abandoned plot’s wall, which collapsed on them.

Police said that the wall collapsed when the truck driver hit it whilst reversing his vehicle. The children who had been playing behind the wall in their street in Zia Colony near Usmania mosque were buried under the debris.

Hearing the cries of the trapped children, residents of the area tried to clear the debris but to no avail, and all four children died on the spot. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

The deceased children were identified as Reshma Naveed (7), Nida Bashir (4), Javeria Shahnawaz (6) and Osama Gulzar (10).

According to the police, the truck driver managed to escape but the truck, bearing the registration number JY-0833, was impounded and a case was registered against the driver at the Mominabad police station upon the complaint of the father of one of the victims, Mohammed Naveed.

A state of mourning prevailed in the area following the tragic incident. The children’s families were in a state of shock and moving scenes were witnessed at the time of the funerals. However, no untoward incident was reported.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed and his two pillion riders were injured when a recklessly driven dumper truck hit the motorcycle on the Northern Bypass within the jurisdiction of the Saeedabad police station.

The police said that Afzal (30) died on the spot while Shakil (22) and Anwar (25) were taken to a local hospital in a precarious condition. No arrest was made since the driver of the dumper truck managed to escape from the scene.

Assailants shot dead a motorcyclist in Federal B. Area within the jurisdiction of the Gulberg police station on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, another charred body was found from Moscow garment factory, which had been set on fire by miscreants two days back. Police said that the body could not be identified. The death toll in the garment factory fire rose to nine.
