Funds for bridge over Chenab

GUJRAT, April 2: The Punjab governor has approved Rs50 million for the construction of a bridge over Chenab near Shahbazpur, Jalalpur Jattan.

Sources told this correspondent on Tuesday that the governor has also directed the local highways authorities to sent a summary in this regard within a week.

District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain had requested the governor during his visit to Gujrat to order construction of a bridge over Chenab because area people can reach Sialkot through boats.

More than 150 people have drowned in the river in boat capsize incidents during the last three years.

ROAD ACCIDENT: An unidentified woman was killed in a road accident near Harriawala intersection on Tuesday.

The woman was crossing the bypass road when a speeding car hit her. She was taken to the DHQ hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

HASHISH SEIZED: The district police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three drug-pushers and recovered 5.5 kg of hashish and 120 bottles of locally made liquor from them.

A police party at Bani Bangla check post intercepted Allah Rakha and Munir and recovered 2.5 and 3 kg of hashish from them.

Sarai Alamgir police raided a house in Khanpur village and recovered 120 bottles of liquor from Naseer.
