NEW DELHI, April 1: India’s cricket team departed early Monday for a five-Test series in the West Indies without captain Saurav Ganguly, who delayed his departure because his wife was unwell.

“Saurav asked to delay his departure by a couple of days. He will be with the team soon,” Niranjan Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told Reuters by phone from Baroda.

Ganguly is expected to join the squad ahead of their three-day tour match with a Guyana Board President’s XI side at Georgetown, starting Friday.

India departed with new physical trainer Adrian Le Roux of South Africa. Coach John Wright is expected to join the squad in London.
