PESHAWAR, Dec 20: The Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) on Thursday unveiled its election manifesto, which lays stress on provincial autonomy and cordial relations with Afghanistan.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the president, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, said: “We will strive for abolition of the concurrent list from the Constitution.” He pledged to work for autonomy of the provinces and for giving them the right to use their resources.

The five-point manifesto stresses the supremacy of Islam, primacy of democracy, social justice, inviolability of the Constitution and provincial autonomy.

Mr Sherpao said the Senate should get financial powers and the provinces should be authorised to deal with foreign donors for development funds without relying on the State Bank.

“Steps will be taken to make the provinces self-sufficient, encourage de-centralisation, increase the provinces’ share in Public Sector Development Programme, and transfer of powers from the centre to the lowest level,” he said.

About the re-naming of the NWFP, Mr Sherpao said that the issue should be resolved in accordance with the peoples’ wishes and resolutions adopted by the NWFP Assembly.

He said his party would also strive for restoration of incentives in the Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate and placing more emphasis on job creation for poverty reduction.

He said the party would try to resolve the pending issue of payment of arrears of the net profits from hydro-electric generation in accordance with the Constitution.

“The provision of annual royalty on natural gas and oil in the NWFP would be calculated at market rate and local people will get priority in getting gas connections,” he said.
