LAHORE, Dec 19: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Ahmed Farooq as the event director for the forthcoming Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in September next year.

Farooq was nominated for the post by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). A senior official in the federal finance ministry, Farooq, who joins the ICC on deputation for one year, will be working on behalf of the international body to help conduct the event smoothly.

As Director 2011 World Cup central committee, Saleem Altaf could also have benefited from the experience of conducting the Champions Trophy matches before the World Cup (to be hosted jointly by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).

But the PCB, surprisingly, did not recommend him for the post.
