MOSCOW, Dec 18: Top Russian tennis player Anna Chakvetadze was robbed of goods worth 200,000 dollars after being tied up by thieves who broke into her holiday home outside of Moscow, Ria Novosti news agency cited police as saying on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said that three or four hooded robbers broke into the house overnight Monday and tied up the 20-year-old Muscovite as well as her parents.

“They then made off with money and goods worth some five million rubles (200,000 dollars),” the spokesman added.

Chakvetadze has enjoyed a breakthrough year on the WTA circuit this year notably reaching the semi-finals at the US Open in New York and is currently ranked sixth in the world after pocketing 1.5 million dollars in prize money.—AFP
