HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The district council members on Saturday expressed annoyance over the district government officials who regularly failed to attend council sessions despite repeated reminders.

Convenor Zafar Ali Rajput said that he had repeatedly called for their presence in the sessions and made recommendations for action still they were not attending the sessions.

The session, which had to pass a resolution on the unplanned growth of plazas in the city after submission of a report on the issue by the officials of Building Control Department (BCD) and Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), had to be adjourned to Monday due to their absence.

The convener had directed the officials in the last session to submit a report on the details of plazas built and being built illegally and officers responsible for it.

The resolution had been tabled by Haq Parast Group (HPG) member Dr. Arif Razmi and the members had unanimously demanded and end to unplanned construction of plazas in the larger interest of the city.

As the session began Dr. Razmi pointed out towards absence of district government officers including those belonging to BCD and HAD and recommended the session’s adjournment to Monday.

Mehboob Abro said that the officials’ absence had become a perennial problem and their attitude was questionable because it involved writ of the house and convenor. The resolution on mini plazas must be adopted and recommendations seeking strict action should be sent to Sindh and district government, he urged.

Yamin Soomro pointed out continued absence of district council’s doctor and said that he had not been seen for past two years. It was useless if officers were not attending the session, he added.

Hussain Bux Hussaini questioned lack of interest of members in council sessions and said that normally the members themselves were not present in the sessions. The members should also do some soul searching, he advised.

The convenor appeared too appeared puzzled over the officials’ absence and said that this time the BCD and HDA officials had submitted a communication informing him that they were busy in election related works.

“Countless rulings have been issued earlier. It will be an insult of ruling itself if it is given against members,” said the convenor when members pressed him to give ruling for disciplinary action.
