MINGORA, Dec 14: A woman was killed and two members of her family were injured when a shell reportedly hit a house in the Chaprial area during a campaign by security forces in various areas in Matta on Friday.

The forces have set up checkpoints in Charbagh, which they had secured on Thursday, and in the adjoining Manglawar area. They claimed to have arrested 14 suspects on Thursday night.

Major Amjid Iqbal, a spokesman for the government media centre in Mingora, claimed that one of the arrested people was Maulvi Bashir of Bara Banda, believed to be a close associate of Maulana Fazlullah.

He said the Army Aviation had landed two Mashak Flights at the Saidu Sharif airport as part of efforts to make the airport operational.

Major Iqbal said the authorities had been contacted to resume commercial flights to and from the airport.

According to the ISPR, security forces fired on suspected positions of militants on the outer edges of the Swat valley.

Mingora and other areas in the district were tense but calm and life appeared to be returning to normal.
