Curbs on flour movement

Published December 14, 2007

FAISALABAD, Dec 13: The City district government has restricted the transportation of flour out of the district and warned millers of quota and license cancellation in case of any violation.

Sources said the government, worried over the reported shortage of flour in different parts of the country, had asked the district governments to do their utmost in ensuring flour availability at the controlled price.

The district governments, however, were not informed what powers they should exercise to control the shortage of the flour.

A 20kg flour bag is being sold at Rs 330-350 in different parts of the district. However, people have to wait for hours in different localities to get flour bags and shopkeepers are minting money with impunity. The CDG has fixed Rs 295 for a 20kg bag, but no body is ready to accept it.

An official said that District Coordination Officer Azam Suleman had imposed unannounced restrictions on the movement of flour out of the district.

He said violators would be behind the bars and quota and licenses of their mills would be cancelled immediately.
