Glamorgan set to hire Rao

Published December 13, 2007

LONDON, Dec 12: English County Glamorgan have lined up Pakistan paceman Rao Iftikhar as their overseas player for 2008.

But Welsh county must play a waiting game to discover if the 27-year-old Rao is available to fill their overseas spot.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to release the contracted players for county cricket next summer, even though they have no Test commitments.

Still it is unclear whether Rao will retain his status among Pakistan’s 19 contracted players.

Glamorgan, having agreed terms with Rao’s representatives, are prepared to wait until March for a final decision before following up other potential targets.Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard says a Pakistan international is more likely signing given their break from international treadmill in 2008.—Agencies
