GUJRANWALA, Dec 10: At least 20 people, including a DSP and six constables, were injured in a clash between an angry mob and a police team on GT Road here on Monday. Reports said Ramzan, a student of secondary school of Shahbaz colony, was crossing the road when a bus crushed him to death. After the incident, a number of people gathered there, attacked the bus driver but he managed to escape.

The protesters blocked GT Road for two hours, burnt old tyres and tried to set the bus on fire. But the police resorted to baton charge, tear gas and aerial firing in a bid to disperse them. In retaliation, the protesters pelted stones at the police team, injuring DSP Tahir Razaq and six constables.

Eyewitnesses claimed that an official vehicle got stuck up in traffic on GT Road and guards of the officer opened fire on protesters and dispersed them.

Sabzi Mandi police have registered a case against 175 people and arrested a number of them.
