SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 10: President Pervez Musharraf on Monday opened the 136 MW Bhiki power plant at Bhiki, 15 km from here.

The project worth $80 million is the second fast-track rental-based power project in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Musharraf announced that Wapda which was restricted in the past to install power plants, will also be allowed to set up plants to meet the country’s increased energy requirements.

He directed Wapda to sort out a strategy in consultation with the KESC to resolve the issues arising from the increased demand of electricity for Karachi city.—APP
