HYDERABAD, Dec 10: Pandemonium was witnessed in the Hyderababd District Council’s session on Monday when some members accused the district government of ignoring them in distribution of develmenet funds despite allocation in the annual budget. Uproar followed strong defence of the district government by Haq Parast-backed nazims.

The house took up the resolution of Yamin Soomro for debate pertaining to non-existence of basic facilities in rural areas of UC-3 Qasimabad. He said the issues were brought to the notice of District Nazim as inhabitants face difficulties.

He said he and other nazims were not given funds for the development in UCs. He threatened to squat on the floor of the House if mentioned work was not done.

Abbas Khan also made a fiery speech questioning expenditure of funds on schemes without the consent of concerned Nazim. He said that he identified schemes for district government but proposals were not accepted in tenders. He said they were told that each UC would be given Rs3 million, a promise which as yet was not fulfilled.

Rashid Khan said the development work was being undertaken at the wish of people and not on the pointation of nazims. He said outgoing district government did nothing but as of now schemes were being executed and genuine objections of nazims accepted.

Mehboob Abro and Hussain Bux Hussaini asked as to why their consent was not obtained for executing works in their area.

“We demand to be taken on board when work is carried out in our UCs”, he said.

Abro said this council was the only forum where one could be held accountable either for transparent distribution of funds or allocations of development work.

Even a pro-district government UC Nazim Sajida Baloch also spoke about discrimination in terms of fund distribution.

Q. Mohammad Hakim said this wasn’t written in the SLGO that the District Nazim must seek consent of UC nazim for starting development work.

“There is always a decent way to follow your work and you don’t always have to agitate for it”, he said in a bid to convince mover of resolution to approach District Nazim personally.
