PESHAWAR, Dec 9: A large number of laptop computers and other electronic items, being taken to the Karkhano Market in the city’s Hayatabad area, have been seized.

According to the Federal Bureau of Revenue’s Customs Intelligence Wing, a bus coming from Quetta via the Indus Highway was intercepted near Kohat. The raiding team had been formed by Additional Director (Intelligence and Investigation) of FBR Qurban Ali Khan. It was led by Arif Hassan, officials said.

According to Qurban Ali, there were no passengers on the vehicle, but it was loaded with foreign electronics items worth at least Rs50 million.

The raid yielded 710 laptop computers, 915 digital cameras, 2,400 cassettes, several CD players, 10 video cameras, 830 mobile phone sets, 700 audio disks, DVDs and other accessories.

The bus has been impounded by the customs authorities.

According to initial investigations, the items had been smuggled from the UAE via Afghanistan.
