GUJRAT, Dec 7: Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed was arrested in Gujrat and expelled from Punjab on Friday. He was later sent to Karachi. Some lawyers trying to stop police from arresting Justice Wajih were injured.

Police also arrested five lawyers, including the president and general secretary of the Gujrat Bar Association.Earlier, addressing the Gujrat bar, Justice Wajih urged political parties to boycott the elections and join the lawyers’ movement. He called upon the lawyers to continue their struggle till the reinstatement of the deposed judges.

When Justice Wajih came out of the bar room, police showed him the detention order issued by the Punjab home department.

The bar leaders said they would take Justice Wajih to the Lahore airport in their own car and police could accompany them after lunch and Friday prayers.

Police agreed to the plan. But after the prayers, lawyers took out a procession led by Justice Wajih and DBA president Tahir Sadiq Butt.

They formed a human chain around the vehicle of Justice Wajih. When the procession reached near the DCO house on the Jail road, police baton-charged the lawyers and tried to arrest Justice Wajih.

Lawyers resisted the police and six of them were injured.

DPO Mahmoodul Hassan Qureshi arrested Justice Wajih and sent him to Lahore.
