Musharraf not moving to Islamabad

Published December 7, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: President Pervez Musharraf, who retired as army chief on November 29, is still living in Army House Rawalpindi, as the government has declared it his official residence.

A handout issued by the Press Information Department in response to some press reports in this regard on Thursday said: “The factual position is that Army House, Rawalpindi including staff quarters and other buildings, apartments thereto and the gardens thereof have been declared as official residence of President of Pakistan in addition to his official residence in Aiwan-i-Sadr, Islamabad as admissible under the President’s Salary, Allowances and Privileges Act 1975.”

It said the Cabinet Division has already issued instructions to the ministry of housing and works in this regard through a memorandum on November 29.

Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani will move to the Army House only after President Musharraf shifts to the Presidency in Islamabad.
