SAHIWAL, Dec 5: The chief election commissioner has directed the deputy election commissioner for Multan to investigate charges of misuse of power against the Sahiwal district nazim.

Syed Amjad Bukhari, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate from PP-222, has alleged that District Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz was running the election campaign of his cousin Rai Azizullah (NA-160) and nephew Rai Murtaza Iqbal (PP-224). Bukhari said Nawaz was using national resources for the purpose.

VIOLATOR HELD: Police have arrested a local Pakistan Muslim League (PML) officer-bearer over violation of Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Muhammad Asghar was carrying weapons during the election campaign of a provincial assembly candidate. Police arrested him, registered a case against him and sent him to jail.

GANGS BUSTED: Police claimed to have busted 12 criminal gangs in different areas of the district. A police spokesman said the arrested criminals were involved in electricity wire stealing, dacoities, drug smuggling and rustling, adding valuables worth Rs25 million had been seized from them. He identified those arrested as Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Sharif, Abbas, Sabir, Shahbaz, Ejaz, Badshah, Baoo, Ashiq, Zulfiqar, Rehmi and Toni.
