LAHORE, Dec 2: With consistency of performance, Lahore Gymkhana’s Matloob Ahmed annexed the Garrison Open golf championship with a three-day aggregate of eight-under-par-208 at the Lahore Garrison course here on Sunday.

The seasoned campaigner was unmatchable as he dominated on all the three days with excellent cards of 66, 68 and finally of two-under-par-70 on the third day.

Champions are normally seen having a difficult time on final days as this is the time when their nerves take over doing away with their confidence.

But Matloob under pressure demonstrated rock-like steadiness that kept him above the rest.

He was four strokes ahead of Talib Hussain and Anser Mehmood at the start of the final round when he attained the gross score of 70 to reach the top.

Though Shahid Javed Khan (Royal Palm) and Anser Mehmood (Islamabad) were tied at 208 each, the former grabbed the runners-up position for his best card of 68 on the final day against the latter’s 70.

Mohammad Shabbir, however, produced the best card of the final day of six-under-par-66 to come fourth after trailing at 15th position at the end of the second round on Saturday.

In the amateur gross event, Robin Bagh was at the top, coming first with scores of 76, 78 and 75 (aggregate 229).

Shakeel Ahmed came second with 83, 74 and 75 (aggregate 232). And Zohaib Asif ended up third with 77, 78 and 79 (aggregate 234).

With a total aggregate net score of 209, Omar Soofi of Gymkhana was the winner in the net section followed by Rashid Akbar with a net aggregate of 213. Lt-Col. Imran was third with the net score of 214.
