HARIPUR, Nov 29: Police on Thursday picked up the cashier and a security guard from a branch of the Allied Bank for allegedly misappropriating Rs2 million.

Police quoted the manager of the Shahrh-e-Hazara branch as saying that Rs150 million were being sent to the National Bank’s main branch as routine transaction when he found the seals of some bundles of notes tampered with.

Soon it transpired that Rs2 million were missing.

The manager tried to probe the matter on his own but when he failed to find any clue, he brought it to the notice of police.

Police took cashier Mian Zahoor Elahi and guard Bashir Ahmed into custody while raids were being conducted to arrest the third suspect, Rasheed, a guard of the Phonix Company, who disappeared after the incident.

The Phonix Company had been collecting and delivering cash to banks for the last several years, police said.

Police are hopeful that the third suspect will be arrested soon.
