Emergency to go before polls: Shujaat

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said emergency will be lifted before the forthcoming general election on January 8.

The PML chief was speaking at a ceremony held to distribute allotment letters of Press Club Housing Scheme (Lohi Bher) plots among the journalists of the twin cities in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Chaudhry Shujaat said the current phase of transition to democracy was historic and significant. He said Gen Musharraf had quit the office of army chief in accordance with the pledge he had made with the nation.

He said after retirement of Gen Musharraf as army chief, all political parties should now accept him as the president of Pakistan. He asked all the political parties to make preparations for the forthcoming general election.

The PML-Q chief greeted the journalists on getting the allotment letters.
