LAGOS, March 29: At least 30 people were feared dead and scores injured in fighting between rival groups in an oil producing area of southwestern Nigeria, a newspaper reported on Friday.
The clashes on Thursday between warring groups in the Ojobo district of the Burutu local government area in Delta state were triggered by a leadership tussle.
Several houses and properties were destroyed in the fighting over who should be the community’s chairman,the Guardian said. Residents had fled to nearby villages.
Nigeria is facing its worst cycle of violence since the end of the 1960s.—Reuters
