HYDERABAD, Nov 22: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil met with the office-bearers of the United Workers Front of Wasa here on Wednesday and urged them to perform their role in recovering outstanding dues from defaulters. The delegation of the front was led by its chairman Ali Bux Buledi, Shaiq Ali, Rao Mehmood Ali, Shahnawaz Qureshi and others.

The district nazim pointed out that billions of rupees have been being spent on the modernisation of water supply and sewerage system which had increased the responsibility of Wasa employees. He, however, reminded the workers that provision of these basic facilities to people was wholly dependent on the recovery of water and sewerage charges.

He said that on the whole, there was visible improvement in the performance of Wasa but added that there was yet a great margin for further improvement.

He assured the union leaders that the district government was not oblivious of their problems and added that they have already been paid backlog of their two months salaries. He expressed the hope that their salaries will now be paid regularly.

Mr Jamil said that during heavy rains last year, the recovery stood at zero yet the Wasa employees were paid their salaries.

He said that although corruption had been totally eliminated in Wasa yet there were some black sheep in the department who must be identified. He urged the union leaders to make all out efforts for the recovery of revenue.

The office-bearers of the union thanked the district nazim for releasing the salaries of the employees.
