HYDERABAD, Nov 18: The Sindh University Teachers Association has criticised what it calls the lukewarm attitude of the university administration towards the teaching community and demanded that their problems as underlined by the executive council and the general body of the association should be solved.

A meeting of the general body of the association was held at the campus on Saturday under the chairmanship of Prof (Dr) Sayed Inayatullah Shah.

It expressed concern over the appointment of retired professors as vice-chancellors of Karachi University and Dow Medical University and said that the federation of All Pakistan Universities has already rejected the “Search Committee” and opposed the appointment of retired professors as vice-chancellors.

The general body meeting resolved that the non-PhD professors, associate professors and meritorious professors should be immediately promoted.

It criticised the university administration for assigning duties of head invigilators and invigilators to junior teachers for pre-entry test and demanded that these duties should be assigned to senior professors.

It further demanded that remuneration for invigilation should be raised to Rs3,000 for head invigilators and Rs2,500 for invigilators on the pattern of other universities.

It further said that the problems of the employees’ colony should be resolved and the teachers should be allotted plots in the housing society phase-III.

It said that those teachers who have passed GRE/GAT tests should be awarded PhD scholarship and the university administration must change its attitude towards teaching community.

DATE EXTENDED: Director Pakistan Study Centre, University of Sindh, has extended the last date for admissions to MA (previous) Pakistan Studies for session 2008 up to Dec 12.
