Rehman in U-17 tennis semis

KARACHI, Nov 7: Playing true to his potential, the promising Abdul Rehman fought his way into the Juniors U-17 singles semi-finals when he got past his opponent in straight sets in the 17th Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Top seed Rehman conceded just three points in his 6-1, 6-2 victory against Asadullah. Earlier in the day he accounted for Omer Osman 6-1, 6-1 in the pre quarter-final. Talha Saeed also cruised into the last four after inflicting a 6-1, 6-0 defeat on Muneeb.

Appearing in his third fixture, Rehman teamed up with Talha to register a crushing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Adil Tanoli/Subhabn in boys doubles.

Vinod Das, the top seed, also sneaked into the men’s singles last four by getting the better of Abdul Saeed 6-4, 6-0.

Nameer Shamsi created quite a stir when he beat a superior player Adil Kohari 6-1, 6-1 to reach boys U-15 singles semis.

Men’s singles (pre quarter-finals): Asadullah w/o M. Z. Khattak; (quarter-finals): Vinod Das bt Abdul Saeed 6-4, 6-0; M. Naseem bt Naresh Das 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

Boys U-15 singles (quarter-finals): Nameer Shamsi bt Adil Kohari 6-1, 6-1.

Boys doubles (first round): Abdul Rehman/Talha Saeed bt Adil Tanoli/Subhan 6-0, 6-0; Omer Usman/Muneeb Khan bt Salman Muneer/Zain Suhail 6-0, 6-1.

Juniors U-17 singles (pre quarter-finals): Abdul Rehman bt Omer Osman 6-1, 6-1 (quarter-finals): Abdul Rehman bt Asadullah 6-1, 6-2; Talha Saeed bt Muneeb 6-1, 6-0.

Boys U-13 singles (quarter-finals): Shahbaz Khan bt Shayan Nadeem 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Ladies singles (round robin): Anam Saeed bt Shermeen 6-0, 6-0; Seher Khwaja bt Uzma Zakaria 6-1, 6-0.

Thursday’s fixtures:

Men’s singles (quarter-finals) 11.00am; boys U-13, U-15 singles (quarter-finals/semi-finals) 1.00pm; ladies singles 3.00pm; boys doubles 3.30pm.
