PESHAWAR, March 24: The National Accountability Bureau arrested a patwari of the NWFP revenue department, Haji Dost Muhammad Khan, here on Saturday for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The accused, who belongs to the Musazai village, was shifted to the Civil Lines police station.

The land revenue official has reportedly spent most time of his service in Peshawar, where he has good contacts with leading politicians and bureaucrats.

An official of the Yakatooth police station told Dawn that a police team with NAB officials had picked up Khan from his residence.

The NAB officials said they had learnt through a preliminary inquiry that the patwari possessed vast pieces of land in his village and other parts of the city.
