MULTAN, Oct 29: PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto will not travel to Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi, in procession, nor any reception will be held on the airport on Nov 9 for security reasons.

PPP Punjab president Shah Mahmood Qureshi said this at a press conference in Multan Press Club here on Monday.

Qureshi said threats and blasts could not snap PPP’s links with masses.

He said as the PPP was not satisfied with the pace and standard of Karachi blasts probe, it demanded that international experts be involved in the investigations to be lead by Pakistani agencies.

Rejecting the view that the blasts were the work of a suicide bomber, he said the carnage was a conspiracy to keep Benazir Bhutto away from the masses by creating harassment.

He said as the government had lost its credibility, the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh were giving irresponsible statements.

He said his party did not nominate any body in the FIR of Karachi’s blasts.

Qureshi said Ms Bhutto would visit all the major cities of Punjab, including Multan, but due to the security reasons the details of her mass-contact campaign were not being released.

He said his party would cooperate with the government regarding the security arrangements for Rawalpindi public meeting.

Showing his concern over the situation in Swat, Balochistan and Waziristan, Mr Qureshi said military operations were not the only way to end terrorism. There was a need to understand why people were being forced to go for suicide bombings and militancy, he added.

He apprehended the militancy could spread to Seraiki belt as it was located along the turbulent areas of Waziristan, especially Dera Ismail Khan.
