TAXILA, Oct 27: Security has been put on red alert around sensitive places in Taxila and Wah Cantonment following the deteriorating law and order situation in Swat.

The defence industries in the two cities had already been put under strict security in the wake of attacks on government installations in various parts of the country.

However, the security level has been further enhanced to the red alert with deployment of additional manpower, security staff and massive patrolling, said a security source.

The source said Cantonment’s all entry and exist points have been put under maximum check and all vehicles were being strictly scanned and monitored.

The law-enforcement personnel especially those from the sensitive agencies have been told to be extra- vigilant, and all police stations have also

been told to increase patrolling in their respective jurisdictions.

Sources said plainclothesmen have been deployed at railway stations, bus stands, congested roads, shopping centres and entertainment places.

They said the authorities concerned had been asked to ensure strict security around the Cantonment areas to avoid any untoward incident.

Moreover, police and other sensitive agencies have launched massive surveillance of over 14 seminaries in Taxila and Wah Cantonment to monitor their activities. Sources said the activities of students in these madressahs were being monitored round-the-clock.

When contacted, city police authorities confirmed that on the directives of the Punjab home department security had been beefed up in and around various defence installations.

Security measures in Attock: Close circuit cameras and other security devices would be installed at district government departments including the offices of district nazim, district council, district police headquarter and district coordination officer (DCO), reports our Attock correspondent.
