HYDERABAD: Bomb hoax at airport

Published October 26, 2007

HYDERABAD, Oct 25: A telephone call caused panic among police and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials here on Wednesday when a woman from Karachi informed a CAA telephone operator here that a bomb has been planted in the airport area.

Bomb disposal squad (BDS) and police personnel rushed to the airport—which has been non-functional for quite some time.

The telephone operator informed the director CAA, who subsequently informed the officials in Karachi and Islamabad as panic gripped the CAA staff.

The CAA’s school, training institute and the entire airport building was searched but no bomb was found. The search for the bomb continued for over three hours.

The CAA officials, however, didn’t provide the telephone number, which appeared on the caller line identification (CLI), to police.

“The CAA people told us that their telephone doesn’t have the facility to keep as many numbers on its CLI and that’s why they are unable to share the number with us,” said a police source.
