Yousuf deserved top award: Afridi

Published October 24, 2007

LAHORE, Oct 23: Shahid Afridi, who was adjudged man of the match in the third ODI at Faisalabad against South Africa, said that Mohammad Yousuf deserved the title more than him.

“If it was upto me to name the man of the match today, I would have voted for Yousuf who really played a fine knock on a difficult pitch,” said the fiery all-rounder after Pakistan’s six-wicket win.

Afridi, who took three wickets for 37 runs besides scoring a quickfire 18-ball 32 and taking two catches, said the pitch was not good for one-day cricket and run-making was never easy.

South African skipper Graeme Smith said a total of around 230 would have been a defendable one on this wicket but the Pakistani bowlers bowled well to restrict his side to a low total.

He said his boys faltered in some areas and will do their best to overcome them in Multan.
