HYDERABAD, Oct 22: An ugly situation developed at the Government Girls Nazareth College here on Monday following a controversy over assuming of charge of the principal by Ms Aftab Ahsan Qureshi. The sitting principal, Ms Naseem Patoli, refused to hand over the charge to her, whose tenure of contract was extended for one year by the Sindh government through a notification and she was allowed to continue from September 12. She had earlier handed over the charge to Ms Naheed Darakshan on the expiry of her contract. But she reached the college again after her contract was extended. She arrived in the college and asked Ms Naseem Patoli to vacate the seat. She was delegated powers of drawing disbursing officer (DDO) by the regional education directorate.

The regional education director Ms Zohra also arrived there as Ms Patoli had also called in the police, creating an ugly situation for the students. Ms Aftab Ahsan had been holding the charge of the principal on contract basis after having completed her service.

SHO Market police station Ahmed Qureshi also arrived there but refused to interfere in the matter, which he said, was a departmental affair. The charge has been handed over to Ms Ahsan but it was not whether she has been given powers of the DDO.
