MULTAN, Oct 20: Police have arrested an Auqaf Department teacher and seven others for allegedly kidnapping his father for Rs2 million ransom.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Muhammad Nawaz Waraich told journalists on Saturday that eight people had been arrested and Qari Khalil Ahmad recovered, adding Ahmad’s own son Hafiz Muhammad Aslam was involved in his abduction. He said the accused kidnapped Ahmad on Oct 18 and demanded Rs2 million ransom from Aslam for his father’s recovery.

Waraich said Ahmad was kidnapped for ransom as his three sons were working in Dubai and the fourth - Aslam - as a teacher in the Auqaf Department. He said Aslam turned out to be an accused during the investigation. He said accused Aslam, Ghulam Jafar, Abid Hussain, Munawar Hussain, Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Razzaq and Muhammad Riaz had been arrested, but their three accomplices fled.—APP
